I’ve spoken to a mental health professional, and it didn’t help. What now?
An important tip from us in relation to professional support, we urge you to be patient to find the right fit. Please do not be put off or lose motivation if the first person you speak with is not the best fit for you. A lot of people take that first courageous step of accessing support, but don't connect with their psychologist or counsellor and then think the whole process is a waste of time. Give it a couple of sessions – these things can take a little bit of time - and if the connection is not strong, if you don’t feel comfortable, politely request to speak with someone else. Think about it like shopping for a pair of shoes, sometimes you need to try a few pairs on before you find the shoe that fits really, really well. Finding the right fit is so important, and once you do (and more often than not you will if you’re persistent and patient) the relationship can be really helpful, possibly life-changing.
